Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
He's 6'1" (although he usually seems a few inches shorter since he rarely pulls himself up to his full height), and the best descriptor is "lanky"; he's all gangly limbs and scarecrow angles hidden under a cheap suit.
2. How old is he?
28
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
About 90% of the time he slouches and skulks and generally carries himself either like he's up to something or is a cowering puppy. If not a combination of the two simultaneously. He can stand up straight, but he usually doesn't; it's pack mentality at work, and he's most definitely not the Alpha.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
He's in good health physically; he's got a cast iron stomach and seldom gets sick (although when he does it's Life Threatening, to hear him tell it, and he's usually out of commission for a few days), and while he may not be Mr Universe or anything, he's stronger than he looks. The only illnesses or conditions he has are psychological in nature, physically he's fit as a fiddle, aside from the fact that he can't see much more than moving blurs without his glasses.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Predatory; he's not exactly graceful, but he moves smoothly and with purpose.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
Eh. Depends on your tastes? But he preeeetty much SCREAMS creeper what with the old school glasses and general odd tics, so. Chances are he's NOT someone you would voluntarily chat up at the bar unless you've got a thing for creepy man-children. As far as self-perception goes, he doesn't actually think about it all that much. He's about as self-conscious as everybody else, but in general he's pretty content with things.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Pale and WASPy as can be and fairly clear-skinned. He's got a few scars here and there (occupational hazard), but nothing really obvious, although once the hole in his hand heals up he'll have a lovely "little" scar there.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Dark brown, stick-straight unless he's been doing things, and close-cut. He's got fairly impressive sideburns and the kind of bangs that would impress Spock for their precision and maintenance.
9. What color are his eyes?
A nondescript brown and they're rather...puppy-like a majority of the time. Even if they do come across as kind of...dead and expressionless.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
A chin that would give Leno's a run for its money and a fairly expansive forehead
11. What are his chief tension centers?
Bah. Richie doesn't get tense. He gets cranky and takes it out on other people and then feels worlds of better.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
Utilitarian; a button-down and a cheap off-the-rack suit does him just fine. ...He also hasn't had much of a chance to expand on his wardrobe since he's been on the run, so it's pretty much just a couple similar shirts, a couple undershirts, and the same jacket, pants, and shoes day in and day out.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
Like mentioned above, they're off-the-rack. They fit, but it's clearly not tailored or anything. He seems comfortable enough in them, but then again that's mostly just because it's what he wears and what he's worn for years. He doesn't really do variety.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
Yep! Especially since he's still on the run and all (sort of); it doesn't really leave much room for that whole "relaxing in Hawaiian shirts and Bermuda shorts" thing. ...Not that he would anyway.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Gahhh idk. We'll say boxers.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Medium range leaning towards higher for a male, kind of nasally when he starts whining; nothing overly exceptional
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
Depends on the situation. If he's being low-key (we shall call this "Good Boy Mode") he speaks softly and unhurried, making an effort to seem unassuming and completely harmless. Generally he makes use of this when he's on the prowl since it lowers people's defenses (not that he considers this actively). The rest of the time he's either at an average volume or slightly louder, he speaks faster, and it tends to be in bursts, although he hesitates significantly less about what exactly comes out of his mouth.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
He's got a slight, barely noticeable lisp, and his vocabulary periodically dips into "surfer" or "offensive", populated by frequent curses. He's not above using slurs, although they seem to be more part of the vocabulary rather than intentionally offensive.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
Fluent in English and knows some Spanish. Key word being some.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Aside from the aforementioned "GBM" and regular, no.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
He probably should think about what he says before it comes out of his mouth, but he rarely does. Generally when he's been Up To No Good and knows it he'll prepare a story to cover the aspects that might put him in a bad light (i.e. "she was trying to escape and here's what happened" instead of owning up to what actually happened), then recite it to himself over and over until he actually believes it.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Eloquent in his own way. He gets his point across, but that's more because he's not overly theatrical so it's all pretty straightfoward. Or threats, which are self-explanatory. He gets a little tongue-tied when it comes to more...sensitive things, shall we say, but it's difficult to say if it's just artifice or if he really is that awkward at the beginning.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
He's reasonably smart, but it's more street-smart rather than academics; he skipped school about as much as he could get away with and wasn't particularly interested in it to begin with, so he knows enough to get by and just relies on pop culture and practical knowledge for the rest.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
He probably should deliberate before he acts, but he rarely does, he's more a Doer than a Planner, he'll just roll with the punches and jump right in.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Intuitive and practical. Richie rarely stops to consider things before acting, he just does whatever comes to mind, so consequently his thought process is rather convoluted and stream-of-consciousness. He doesn't really follow any logical pattern, which makes him dangerously unpredictable because it's difficult to anticipate what he's going to do in any particular set of circumstances; if anything, he can usually be counted on to do exactly the wrong thing if it's a sensitive situation. He usually goes for the simplest solution rather than planning for the ideal outcome because he doesn't have the patience for it.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
Elementary and most high school, but nothing more formal than that. Most of his knowledge comes from what he watches on TV or sees in the movies or reads in comic books.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
He's really good at killing people, and that's...about it. He's an expert at whining and being argumentative, but those are more character traits than actual skills. He's also got a pretty solid grasp on any shoot-em-up or horror movie and most major comic book 'verses (yes, he's an overgrown teenage boy at heart). He's not really looking to learn anything else aside from how to improve his existing skill sets.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Introvert for the most part; he pretty much lives in his head. But he also enjoys sticking his nose where it doesn't belong for fun. It's a compulsion.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Overall he's pretty even tempered; when everything is copacetic in his head he's calm and relaxed and willing to go along with pretty much whatever. It's only when he snaps, when someone says something or he sees something that sets him off, that he gets short-tempered, and then he rages and yells and threatens and waves dangerous objects around with reckless abandon until he gets it out of his system. Which...more than occasionally only happens after somebody's dead.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Depends. Women he responds well to, if by "well" you mean he stares at them, slackjawed and practically drooling, until someone reminds him he needs to cut it out. He's quiet and timid and uncertain until he gets Ideas, which usually happens after the initial "newness" starts to wear off. Everybody (and thing) else he's immediately suspicious of, and sometimes overtly hostile to if he suspects something's up.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
React (technically). Even when he behaves inappropriately because he's hallucinating, it's always prompted by something he sees or hears, he doesn't start it himself (at least, from his perspective). ...Which then really makes the answer act, doesn't it.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Fight. He usually needs to be talked down, his instinct is to
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
All kinds, although his personal brand is a little...dark and twisted. He gets the most entertainment out of the misfortunes of others, and appreciates all manner of lowbrow humor (yes, he's the guy who knows ENTIRELY too many dirty and/or offensive jokes and is more than happy to share them with you whether or not you want them).
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
HA. Yes. He's an as-yet undiagnosed schizophrenic; he has both auditory and visual hallucinations frequently, paranoid thoughts including those of persecution, a marked reduction in his ability to relate to and interact with others in socially acceptable ways, and has since he was 15 (although they got exponentially worse about 3 months after his 23rd birthday). His grip on reality is tenuous at best, although he's somehow managed to muddle through alright so far, thanks in no small part to his brother's near-constant presence.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
First and foremost his mother's death and Seth's subsequent decision for the two of them to run away - it's colored pretty much everything he's done since then since it fucked him up but good. After that would probably be their time at a Home, during which they learned the importance of sticking together and Richie's...tendencies started actually manifesting. The day Seth turned 18 would be next, since that was the day they left for good and embarked on their Daring Life of Crime. After that is the day Seth was locked up, since Richie was forced to live on his own for the first time in his entire life and it mostly went DISASTROUSLY. About 3 months after that was when the hallucinations started to get really bad, which was pretty much the beginning of the end as far as being able to operate independently went. The day he was locked up himself was pretty important as well, although less so since he pretty much kept his head down as much as he could, but even so it gave him a taste of what he'd get if he continued the way he was going. Although by the time he'd committed his first actual rape as opposed to just stalking and watching (which had been his M.O. up to that point) he'd pretty much forgotten all about it. Up until that point he'd been very careful to keep himself to himself, but afterwards he stopped bothering, as if it were some kind of Sign. The first time he killed the girl afterwards was about a month before he broke Seth out. He couldn't have said how it happened afterwards, and he was sloppy cleaning up after himself, but at the time it had just felt right and he couldn't help it. The last two Defining Moments were actually breaking Seth out and the whole Titty Twister fiasco, for obvious reasons.
14. What does he fear?
Abandonment, mostly; for most of his life he was rarely without his brother, and by now he's kind of developed a complex about being left behind - he tends to get anxious when left alone for any significant amount of time past what was assured, generally with TERRIBLE results.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
None. No, really; he's perfectly happy with things just the way they are.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
Terrible. He liked them okay when they were around, but...they're not anymore, so he doesn't think about them much.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
One brother, older by a few years, named Seth. They are extremely close, and Richie quite frankly can't imagine a life without him in it. He's uber-dependent on him for...pretty much everything from food to clothes to shelter and everything in between.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
Nope, he has no other relatives that he talks to; he doesn't need to.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
Nope, his family consists of him and Seth and that's really it. It's all he needs and all he wants.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
...Seth...? They're brothers. He met him when he was born.
Seriously, it's sad how much his world revolves around him.
6. Does he have other close friends?
Nope.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
He gets along with people decently at first, but it doesn't always last very long since he usually tries to ascribe things to them that never actually happened.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
Psh. Family, of course.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Single, and never married.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
The answer to 9 was single, so no.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
Heh. A random girl he met by chance in a bar when he was 19 was his first serious crush. Needless to say after he actually got up the guts to approach her she never wanted to see him again. It...didn't go well
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
...Mostly that they're breathing. Although he doesn't really do the romantic thing, he's...kind of terrible at it.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
Nope! No kids or grandkids, and he hasn't thought about the possibility of either ever.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Law enforcement, mostly. He also hates vampires since one killed him.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
He's a 1 on the scale; he identifies as straight, and about 99 times out of a hundred he doesn't waver from that. All his victims have been female, and in general that's what he seeks. But he has a tendency towards getting a little...friendly with certain individuals of the same gender, particularly if they've got that whole Alpha thing going for them. It's not a conscious thing, necessarily, but his dynamic with the type tends to be towards seeking and maintaining physical contact and just kind of...going with whatever in order to avoid making waves. It's not his preference, necessarily, but he's willing to be accommodating under the right circumstances.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
Ohhh he's a horn dog. Seriously, he thinks about it a lot. Disturbingly much. Sometimes when he should really be thinking about other things that are more important.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Like above, mostly that they're breathing. Having decent tits helps. Although he's really got a thing for feet and girls that are borderline of age. And we are NOT going into weird bedroom habits other than to point out the foot thing again and to remind that these days most people he actually screws end up dead afterwards. In very violent ways.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Nopeee neither. Not so much that he's against it, he just has no opinions on the subject one way or the other.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Ehhh his moral and ethical codes mostly run along the lines of "how will Seth react if I do this?" And 90% of the time he does it anyway; he's a little short on morality.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Tolerant! He may not like them, and he may mock them depending on the circumstances, but mostly he's happy to let you believe in whatever you want since it's no skin off his teeth.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
He thinks most of the world is out to get him? And no, this is very much the opposite of rational.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Depends. If he's running a job with Seth and they've had a haul, he's got cash to spare. But usually he spends most of what he earns, or Seth's hanging on to his share, so he rarely actually has any cash on his person. But they're not hurting for money, they usually get pretty decent hauls.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
Criminal...? So not particularly high. It's been there pretty much his entire life, so it hasn't really affected him too much. He's happy here.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
Motel rooms, mostly. They rarely stay in one place for long, so he doesn't have an actual permanent residence, just a string of cheap rooms that vary in quality depending on where they are and how much trouble they're currently in.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Comics, but it's usually a constantly rotating stash; he's got about 20 that travel with them, and every time he buys one he throws out an older one. He also shells out a good amount of money on booze and girls at bars and similar establishments, and porn.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
He is a professional criminal by trade, and yes, he's DAMN good at it and enjoys the hell out of it.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Most of the time he needs to be reminded to eat, not so much because he forgets he's hungry as because he's not the one in charge of the schedule. He'll point out that he's hungry if he is, but he won't necessarily do anything about it right away.
